2015 has been a year of positives for Hillcrest Private Hospital, which has been rated as one of the top 20 private hospitals in South Africa
Over the past 12 months, Hillcrest Private Hospital has added to its accolades and the services available to patients. “We have seen positive growth in all aspects of our offering,” says hospital manager Glenn de Villiers. “We focus on quality in all that we do and believe that gives us the competitive advantage.”
The opening of a new wing in October 2014 enabled the hospital to welcome additional specialists, providing expert care in general, maxillofacial and orthopaedic surgery, neurology, and gynaecology and obstetrics. National Renal Care is a vital part of this mix, offering comprehensive dialysis services in a dedicated 13-bed Renal Unit.
“On the staffing side, a change in nursing structure means that we now have a regional nursing manager and two deputy nursing managers who play a supporting role to the nursing manager at Hillcrest Private Hospital. This helps to drive quality and strengthen the customer-centric ethos within the hospital’s teams. Our nurses have been rewarded for their professionalism, with five receiving Dean Awards in 2015 and one of those being ranked in the top 10 nurses in South Africa at the Discovery Excellence Awards.”
Plans have been set in motion for exciting developments over the next four years. These include:
- The building of an additional vascular theatre, with resident vascular and orthopaedic surgeons.
- A licence has been granted for the building of a Cath Lab, which will bring much-needed cardiology services to the hospital.
- An application has been made for 88 additional beds, which will be used to increase capacity across the hospital, including expansion to the paediatric, maternity and NICU wards, with eight of the 88 beds being added to ICU/High Care to support the cardiovascular theatre.
- Management are in discussion with the Department of Health regarding final tweaks to the hospital’s Stroke and Rehab Centre, which is an important part of the strategy for 2016.
“All this forms part of a progressive growth and development strategy to enable us to best serve the community of the Upper Highway and beyond,” Glenn continues. “High demand is driving us to push further, seeking out staff who live the ethos of patient care and quality, and who live our values and share our vision.
Thank you to the local community for helping us grow over the past four years. We are grateful for your ongoing support and wish you a safe and healthy 2016.”
