Once a month the 1000 Hills Chef School hosts a gourmet evening, featuring a seven-course meal paired with wines from a South African estate.
The dinner is prepared by first-year students under the watchful eye of principal Chef Jade Benians, who leads the learners in creating dishes that focus on the skills and ingredients they are covering in the syllabus at the time. Pastry students prepare a delectable plated dessert conceptualised by talented young Chef Shaista Anoop, and the third group of students serves the guests – many of them regulars, booking their next dinner as they leave the last. The school is encouraged to have such wonderful support from the community, and new diners can expect a teasing taster followed by a couple of starters, two main dishes and lastly a plated dessert.
*The August Gourmet will be held on August 9 to celebrate Women’s Day, and for something completely different – paired with a selection of gins!
