Expand a Sign’s clients generously pledged Uzwelo schoolbags in lieu of year end gifts to learners from Egecekeni Primary School near Shongweni Dam, Hillcrest. A team from Expand a Sign visited Egecekeni Primary and handed over fifty Uzwelo schoolbags, juice and snacks to a very excited group of Grade R’s.
The Uzwelo Bags initiative, spearheaded by Expand a Sign, sees thousands of meters of their waste textile fabric donated to teams of sewers from underprivileged backgrounds to make unique and truly South African bags and earn a living that puts food on the table for their families, funds education and provides dignity and upliftment for their communities on a long-term basis.
“Our visit was incredibly special as sheer delight exuded from these precious children as they each received their very own schoolbag. I encourage other organisations to consider supporting initiatives like Uzwelo Bags that see the community benefiting directly through their support,” says Tanya Bailey – Uzwelo COO.
Uzwelo’s goal is to provide 50 000 school bags to underprivileged school children this year. “We appeal to the community to be a part of changing lives by pledging R130 to donate a new school bag to an underprivileged child. All relevant information regarding how you can get involved is on our website – www.uzwelo.co.za” concluded Tanya Bailey.
