On a rainy evening at the end of March, Mpumlanga township gathered at Seaman’s Corner to enjoy the tunes of the jazz band Iza Ngoma.
The young men played a great mix of their own compositions and covers of their personal favourite South African composers. Their performance was a balance between a vanguard style of jazz and a more danceable repertoire that created an electric atmosphere at the venue. On the bandstand were Hlubi Vakalisa Jele on saxophone, Phuti Mofokeng on trumpet, Sibusiso Shabalala on piano and vocals, Charles Mdakane on bass guitar and Kabelo Mokhatla on drums.
