Waterfall Schools, the dynamic new independent school in Hillcrest, is abuzz with excitement following the launch of the 2020 Campus Capital Campaign and, soon thereafter, the start of construction on a new eight-classroom block for Waterfall College.

September saw the launch of the 2020 Campus Capital Campaign, with a fundraising goal of R8 400 000 to make a new eight-classroom hub a reality. This is an important part of the Waterfall Schools masterplan, which sees the creation of a world-class educational journey from 12 months to Grade 12.

A joint team from Focus on iThemba and Waterfall Schools, together with experienced fundraiser Janet Burgess, are engaging with potential donors to try to secure this funding. The first commitment has enabled building to begin, while the team continue their fundraising efforts.

“It is hard to believe that what began as a small homeschool in 2000 has grown into a burgeoning educational hub with the potential to change lives far beyond our beautiful campus,” says Waterfall College Principal, Jeanette van der Merwe.

Formally established in 2004, Waterfall College has seen exceptional growth and achieved a 100% IEB pass rate, 15 years running. Through hard work (and prayer) by a dedicated team of staff, supported by a passionate parent and student body, Waterfall College has earned a reputation as a centre for high-quality independent learning.

“While we have always strived to achieve beyond expectation, the creation of Waterfall Schools on the iThemba Campus in 2017, incorporating Waterfall Pre-Primary and Waterfall Preparatory School, has invigorated our school community,” Mrs van der Merwe continues. “This has solidified the God-given vision that we hold of a place where young adults are given the strength and humility to fulfil their potential and make a difference in our world.”

Waterfall Schools offers affordable, forward-thinking schooling in a stable, Christian environment, with a maximum of 24 pupils per class. From 333 students in 2017 to 594 in 2018 and 700 projected for 2020, Waterfall Schools has an exciting story – proudly South African and designed to enhance the future of our country.

“Not only do we aim to support our students in their growth, but we extend that support to the exceptional work done by Focus on iThemba, promoting Early Childhood Development in the Valley of 1000 Hills and through the dynamic iThemba Scholars programme, which offers Waterfall Schools scholarships to selected pupils from the Pre-Schools with which Focus on iThemba partners.”

“It is incredible what prayer and hard work can achieve,” says Mrs van der Merwe. “We extend our thanks to the Waterfall Schools community and donors for their ongoing support on this extraordinary journey.”
