Hillcrest’s SANBS (South African National Blood Service) clinic has been open six days a week at The Colony Centre since November 2008. The clinic recently expanded to having a third donor chair and a third staff member – the helpful team now consists of Ingrid Marlton, Gill Smith and Jacki Smith.
“We would love to see more local community members supporting our clinic and taking the opportunity to save lives,” says Ingrid. “Donors need to be between the ages of 16 and 65, weigh over 50kg, be in good health and live a sexually safe lifestyle.
We encourage anyone interested to pop in and see us to ask any questions they may have.”
World Blood Donor Day on June 14 – celebrating current regular donors and aiming to raise a wider awareness of blood donation and the fact that an adequate supply can only be ensured by the regular donations by voluntary, unpaid donors – saw 46 donors walk through the Hillcrest clinic’s door, 37 of whom could be bled.
“We look forward to getting to know many more committed donors in the Upper Highway area in the future,” says Ingrid.
