With the Kloof Conservancy annual Three Falls Trails run coming on August 6th, 2017 there are lots of great birds and animals to look out for.

By Kirsty Chalmers

The elusive bush pig had been making appearances from time to time and was recorded on the 8th of June 2017 (see Facebook page). The large spotted genet has also been gaining the spotlight as an adaptable little predator. The caracal is still being sighted on camera traps and has been recorded with kittens. Also look out for the tiny blue duiker and their larger antelope cousins, the bushbuck.

The conglomeration of forest birds is outstanding, boasting the Purple Crested turaco, white fronted bee-eater and if you’re lucky the narina trogon.

If you want to see these fantastic creatures and find out more about them and the way they live, you can meet for a free guided tour on the second Saturday of every month at the Kloof and Highway SPCA for a two hour walk covering several special habitats and biomes.

Don’t forget to keep an eye out over the second week of August for the return of the yellow billed kites.
