Choosing a photographer for your wedding or portrait can be daunting, but Gavin Higgins makes the process easy – combining his photography skills and love of people to produce images that will become family heirlooms.

Gavin Higgins is a Durban born-and-bred wedding and portrait photographer, and owner of The Studio Ballito. Having first picked up a camera with any serious intent in 2012, Gavin has worked hard to establish himself as a photographer, speaker and educator. This contribution led to him being selected as a speaker at the Photo & Film Expo 2017 in Joburg, Africa’s largest photographic event.

Gavin is actively involved in the KZN photographic community through his Studio open days and Social Media, and regularly holds workshops for up-and-coming photographers.

Although Gavin is predominantly a specialist wedding and portrait photographer, he also owns and operates TastyPhoto, a food photography business servicing restaurants and publications in the Greater Durban Area.

Gavin’s love for wedding and portrait photography stems from a love for people. “To capture the look of a groom as he sees his bride walking down the aisle for the first time, or a wife’s tear as she dances with her father on her wedding night is an immense privilege,” Gavin says. “People trust me with some of the most important moments of their lives and will treasure the images I create forever – their children and grandchildren will too!

“Portraiture and food photography yields a different sort of satisfaction. It’s more about taking something familiar and presenting it in the most visually interesting way you can using the tools at your disposal. Every project is a challenge and every happy client means the world to me. I get to do what I love every day. I’m a lucky boy!”
