October 19, 2011. Our Lady of Fatima Dominican Convent School recently held a memorable evening for their first sporting teams. The school hall was transformed with beautiful décor, to reflect the theme, “A feather in your cap”, which highlighted the girls’ achievements for the year. Each captain and her vice captain of the different sports delivered reports on the success, disappointments and the amazing memories they had shared with their teams.

The reports were delivered during delicious meals that were served, with the highlight of the evening being the inspirational talk by local hero and Sharks skipper, Stefan Terblanche. He encouraged the girls to enjoy participating in their sports and ended off his speech with a few interesting facts about the Sharks team members; the girls were thrilled to have Stefan as their guest speaker.
The evening ended with an awards ceremony in which much-sought-after sporting trophies were awarded . . . presented by Stefan.
Team of the year went to The First Hockey Team. Amy Visagie received the Trophy for Commitment and Contribution to Fatima Sport. The Trophy for Sports all Rounder was awarded to Danielle Vinay, and Tracey Whitfield was announced Sport Woman of 2011.
Head of sport, Mrs Lynch ended the evening by saying, “Sport has provided many of you with some of the greatest experiences in your lives to date. Sport brings much more into our lives than the competition itself. Athletes remember the fun things and the camaraderie as much as goals, smashes, tackles and wins, thanks to the strong, positive attitudes that have been built into your psyches.”
The Lady of Fatima sports dinner was a fun, enjoyable evening filled with laughter and recollections of the success of the 2011 sporting year for all who attended.Tags: Lady of Fatima, rugby, Sharks, Stefan Terblanche
